ITINERARY

Day 01 DEPART HEATHROW

Depart from London Heathrow flight to Saigon (Vietnam).

Day 02 ARRIVE SAIGON – CONNECT FLIGHT TO PAKSE (LAOS) (-)

Once arrive at Saigon International Airport, connect your flight to Pakse. Note: the flights from Saigon to Pakse available on Tue, & Sat only. Pakse is the provincial capital of Champasak where the Mekong and Sedon rivers meet. The rest of the day is free at leisure. Overnight in Pakse. (flights on Tue & Sat only)

Day 03 PAKSE – WAT PHU – 4000 ISLAND (B)

After breakfast, drive out to visit Wat Phu. Built by the Khmer, Wat Phu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 5th century, and a highlight of Southern Laos. You head out to Khong Island, part of the 4,000 Islands region. Here the Mekong can get up to 14km wide during the rainy season and it is dotted with thousands of islands varying in size. Overnight on Don Kong Island.

Day 04 DONE KONG - DONE KHONE (B, L)

After breakfast, you will take a boat trip from Don Khong to Khone Island and start your visits to the highlights of this Mekong Island. Visit the old French heritage sites on Khone and see colonial buildings and the remnants of a locomotive from the first Lao railway. Continue your visit to the 4,000 islands area to Liphi waterfall, one of the most beautiful waterfalls marking the border between Laos and Cambodia, also known as the Samphamith. If you are lucky, you may even see the rare freshwater Irrawaddy Mekong dolphin. Either explore further with a walk to Pasoi waterfall and see how the locals’ fish in the Mekong or take time to relax in this fascinating island location. Overnight on Don Khone Island.

Day 05 DONE KHONE – PAKSE FOR DEPARTURE TO VIENTIANE (B)

This morning an excursion to Khone Phapheng Waterfalls, the breathtaking Waterfall. It is Southeast Asia’s biggest waterfall and is known as the Niagara of the East. After we’ll say goodbye to 4,000 islands you transfer back to Pakse airport for your onward flight to Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel and spend rest of day at leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 06 VIENTIANE – FULL DAY TOUR OF VIENTIANE (B, L)

Breakfast at the hotel. Full day city tour in Vientiane. Meet your guide at the hotel lobby and exploration this charming town, first visit to Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple in Vientiane and Wat Prakeo, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image, continues to That Luang Stupa, the famous and sacred structure of Laos. In the afternoon, enjoy your lunch at the local restaurant before traveling south of town to the Buddha Park, a scattered enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, close to the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe. Return to Vientiane by late afternoon, you will stop to have some nice pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Arrive at your hotel by late afternoon. Rest of the day is at your own leisure. Overnight in Vientiane.

Day 07 VIENTIANE – FLIGHT TO PHONSAVANH (B)

In the morning. After breakfast free at your leisure till we transfer to airport for your flight to Phonsavanh. Please note that for flights from Vientiane to Xieng Khouang is available on Sun, Mon, Tue, Thu, & Fri. Upon arrival at Phonesavan airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon you will tour the city and visit the Mines Advisory Group office, an organization that aids in clearing unexploded landmines still remaining from years of war. Overnight in Xieng Khouang.

Day 08 PLAIN OF JARS (B, L)

In the morning, you will explore the Plain of Jars, an impressive archaeological site where hundreds of large stone jars are scattered across a plateau. You first explore Site 1, where a giant urn weighing thousands of kilos can be found, along with 250 other jars with oval or round openings, some even have a square opening. Then head to Site 2 which is situated on a hill. Take in the fresh air, enjoy a panoramic view, and shoot photos of villages dotting the valley while learning more about the enigmatic jars, and developing your own origin theory behind them. Continue your visit to Muang Khoun, the capital of Xieng Khouang before its total destruction during the war. The ride is through the peaceful country with rolling hills, rice paddies, and minority villages. Overnight in Xieng Khouang.

Day 09 PHONSAVANH – LUANG PRABANG (B)

Today you will travel by road to Luang Prabang. The journey takes you through stunning landscapes of steep terraced fields and hill villages, and you will stop at some villages to interact with the friendly Khmu and Hmong people. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 10 LUANG PRABANG – FULL DAY TOUR OF KUANG SI WATERFALL (B, BL)

After breakfast, start your full day tour to Kuang Si Waterfall Meet your guide and travel south of town to Kuangsi Waterfalls, visiting the H’mong village, Ban Na Ouane en route. Once we arrive, we will take a short walk through the forest to the waterfalls where you will enjoy a picnic lunch and have the chance to go for a swim in one of the nearby clear pools. While there, you will also have the opportunity to visit the Asian Black Bear Rescue Centre Return to Luang Prabang in the afternoon, free time at your leisure. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

Day 11 LUANG PRABANG – DEPARTURE (B)

After breakfast free at your leisure till we transfer to international airport for your return flight.
